This is the story about how ‘ROBO!’ came into existence.
Andrew and I were toying with the idea of presentations for the reunion that would be displayed on a screen for all to enjoy while catching up with friends. As you may all know, the presentations got the desired effect as I watched the delight in all your faces with comments like “OMG! That’s me!” or “Isn’t that so & so?”.
As it so happened, Andrew had a few copies of the infamous ‘Playback’. The end of year Magazine for Springwood High School. These copies were made long before we’d even thought about using computers. There was some ‘sick-minded’ person who did these fine pieces of art by utilising a few photographs. a pair of scissors and glue. Hence ‘ROBO!’ was born.
‘ROBO!’ was, in fact, a photo of a gymnast with a photo of Mr Robertson’s head glued on. The text that is featured in ‘ROBO!’ appeared on the page, along with a photo of two music teachers with Mrs Dahl and Mr #’s heads glued on.
I started out with a PDF scan of this page (thank you Andrew) and converted it (with one of my many computer programs) into a format that I could then make into an animation. As this was my first attempt at doing an animation, I called in a favour from a fellow in Victoria who was a whiz at this type of thing, who could also teach me how to do animations in the future.
My friend from Victoria sent me back ‘ROBO!’ and I was able to insert him into the Powerpoint presentation that was featured at the reunion. I couldn’t help myself, this was ‘old’ technology updated and I went mad. Austin Power’s Theme was the best music I could come up with and seemed so appropriate.
If you have a few copies of the ‘Playback’ magazines and find something that could do with an update, scan it and email it to me, I will be happy to weave a little magic into ‘old’ technology and keep our school memories alive.
If you haven’t already seen ‘ROBO!’ in all his glory, Download and enjoy. You will need either Powerpoint 2007 or Powerpoint 2007 viewer which may be downloaded via a link on this page or from Microsoft.
Thank you.
